Time To Turn Things Around..

With 2019 coming to a close in a few hours we have much to give God thanks for. As a country we have had many positives throughout the year and we have all right to celebrate. One that quickly comes to mind is the Miss World’s Crown. Our athletes who did us all proud at the World Athletics Championships and all celebrated with them.

However, with all of the celebrations there is a huge elephant in the room known as crime and violence. With the best of strategies on the table we continue to be swimming in blood with over 1200 persons murdered since January. We obviously have ran out of ideas in taming the crime monster. The SOEs and ZOSOs though good ideas and should be applauded these strategies have lost their shock and awe. The criminals seem to fear no one or nothing. The killing fields in sections our country have become a daily menu such that many of us have got harden to the daily slaughter. What will we do as a country to stem the bloodshed as we prepare to meet the next decade? One thing is for sure we cannot continue slaughtering each other like hogs and dogs (to be kind to these animals they are not killing each other). To curtail the level of crime and violence in our beloved country we have to:

1.Deal with the high level of corruption head~on at all levels…be it micro or macro.

2.Greatly empower the security forces so they can carry out their job effectively.

3.Use more advanced technologies to greatly assist our security operatives.

4.Address and deal with the high levels of indiscipline parading as the new normal in our country…from the streets to the school rooms and from parliament to the opulent houses.

5.Find collaborative strategies to manage and stop the weaponry that continues to enter out shores. We should not procrastinate on this; it ought to be priority #1 for 2020.

Jamaica is too beautiful a place. Besides we are blessed with too many outstanding individuals from the known to the unknown for us to continue allowing criminal elements and crass behaviour to spoil its beauty.

I believe we have arrived at this place of ugliness because we have sown to the wind and now we are reaping the whirlwind. I however, believe strongly that together we can change the direction of the wind.

As we stand on the threshold of the new decade it’s time we stop turning a blind eye at the little things as a result of political expediency. It is these little things that lead to corrupt activities and often times grow into uncontrollable events. We need to also bring to an end the “bligh and connection cultures.”

My fellow Jamaicans we are a very proud set. We love to celebrate and party. That being said we should not allow 2020 to be another year of blood and more blood. The carnage on our roads which is a result of gross indiscipline must also be halted by any means necessary.

“We must all suffer one of two things: the pain of discipline or the pain of regret or disappointment.” ~ Jim Rohn

Peace to all humans. Do have a bountiful and God bless year…and may we have a great decade.
