June O’Sullivan Visit BIB 5/11/2015

At Mama’s funeral on the 28th June 2014.

Bird in Bush Nursery June O’Sullivan MBE

Hello

I am having a lovely spate of visits at the moment and this week was just as good. I arrived on Monday at Bird in Bush on a wet depressing day but I as soon cheered up when I went inside. The nursery is so very LEYF, with lovely calm vibe, clean and uncluttered and some great dispalys. The hessian looks great but I have been warned by Marion that you have to get good quality type which she gets from Amazon as it’s hard to get the John Lewis option. The cheap hessian gets wrinkled and can fray and Lynne was replacing and ironing one of her boards as she was dissatisfied with the aesthetic feel and is quite the LEYF perfectionist. (Mervelee Myers Updates 2019: Just read the reviews at www.leyf.org.uk for clarifications. And why use the word depressing to describe the weather?)

I had not realised that Mervalee had moved from Luton to BIB and was happy to find her in the garden playing with a child who had just learned to cycle. She has embraced the multigenerational approach and had been doing a life story with a local woman aged 77 years old ex nursery volunteer. She had been an evacuee during the War and Mervalee had begun to record her story for the nursery history. She said the lady could not believe we were interested in her story and cried with emotion. (MM Updates: My publications are to be found at https://www.google.com from the advent of the CEO issuing employees with Memo to contribute to her Blog https://linkedin.com/in/june-o-sullivan.mbe-a9798ba/ in June 2012). Thank you to Remi who waited to say hello before leaving.

I loved Benedicta’s Maths activity. (MM Updates: Once again the CEO gets the names mixed up. This was Sao’s activcity). Paragraph went on to describe the activity. We had a chat about the computer and how best to use it so its extending children’s abilities and offering practice and repetition rather than than just low grade games. It reminded me of my dissertation which was called “The Computer or the Cardboard Box”. (MM Updates: All I will say is I have my defensive practice and keep evidence of my intellectual property in line with the General Data Protection Regulations [GDPR]. Because LEYF failed to review and update the Contract www.ico.org.uk, I signed in line with the Equality Act 2010).

Finally, we joined Flavia in the big room with her bouncy three and four year olds who were making people and dressing them with different fabrics. (MM Updates: My planned focus activities of course).

I ended the day with a nice cup of tea in the very clean and well organised kitchen. I was sorry to miss Gloria and see her in her smart uniform. Thank you to BIB who hosted a visit from the Fire Station staff and had received some lovely compliments about enthusiasm and friendliness. (MM Updates: All curtesy of Mervelee Myers of course).

I look forward to my next visit.

June

Best Wishes. June. June O’Sullivan MBE.
