The Museum of Cambridge is excited to launch our new community co-curated exhibition ‘Legacies of Windrush in Cambridge’, in partnership with Dr Carol Brown-Leonardi and the African Caribbean Research Group, opening on 26th of April 2025. The first exhibition of its kind, it shines a light on the lives and experiences of the Caribbean Windrush community and those who left an indelible mark on Cambridge and the UK.
Featuring for the first time a series of oral histories from local Caribbean Elders in Cambridge, the oral histories capture special moments of family history, experiences and invaluable community stories. Stories collected in partnership with Dr Carol Brown-Leonardi share the fantastic legacy of the Windrush generation through music, food, religion, the arts and community. From pub landlords, local newsagent owners and steelpan bands, the exhibition celebrates the people at the heart of Cambridge’s community.
This project was only made possible thanks to public funding from the National Lottery through Arts Council England.
“Legacies of Windrush in Cambridge” will open on Saturday 26th April 2025, and remain on display until January 2026. Standard entry applies.
Songstreets offers an interactive journey through the streets and culture of Brixton, accessed via Aswarm XR’s mobile app – Led by the knowledge of Black Brixtonites, we journey into the heart and fire of what empowers this unique place, exploring how songs can spark pathways into the hidden stories & cultural memories embedded in our streets.

Border Crossings’ ORIGINS Festival celebrates the world’s First Nations in an explosion of art, performance and debate
It began when Border Crossings ORIGINS Festival commissioned us to respond to the work of Indigenous Australian musician Jessie Lloyd, who they had commissioned to undertake a residency in Brixton, working with the local community to discover songs and stories from the 75 years that have passed since the Windrush brought the first post-war migrants to London from the Caribbean.
Jessie Lloyd applied the methodology that she evolved to work with Indigenous Elders in her MISSION SONGS project, and collaborating with Brixton-born artist Tony Cealy, she explored the commonalities of experience between Indigenous Australians and Black Britons, using music to commemorate local heritage, within global histories of racism and emerging processes of reconciliation.
Inspired by the parallels between Jessie’s grandfather Albie Geia, who was a leader in the 1957 Palm Island Strike, which, like the events in Brixton in 1981, were labelled ‘riots’ ( leading to Albie’s imprisonment), the project draws on ‘Brixton’s’ role as a site & beacon of resistance. These connections also coincided with 81 Acts movement, commemorating the 40 Anniversary of the Brixton uprisings of 1981.
Our response to Jessie’s residency is Songstreets; a site-specific, immersive experience that weaves the songs through the streets of Brixton and uncovers their extraordinary stories.
We worked closely with Brixton artist Tony Cealy as the lead narrator and a host of incredible local voices – from activists to musicians, homeless folk to sound-system experts, Caribbean elders groups to pirate radio MC’s – we walked talked and recorded a series of stories that emerged from these streets and these songs. – The result is this truly site-specific journey, accessed through our AswarmXR mobile app.

BORDER CROSSINGS’ ORIGINS FESTIVAL CELEBRATES THE WORLD’S FIRST NATIONS IN AN EXPLOSION OF ART, PERFORMANCE AND DEBATE. ORIGINS creates a unique opportunity to engage with Indigenous artists and activists at the cutting edge of cultural resistance, environmentalism and spiritual tradition. Working with some of the most significant cultural institutions in London, ORIGINS brings the world’s Indigenous artists and cultures to the heart of the capital.
Border Crossings came to us back in 2020, as part of the 81Acts movement (commemorating the 40th anniversary of the Brixton Uprisings of 1981) and the UK/Australia season 21/22, with the question how could we use our unique skill – for connecting people, place and technology into interactive public art works- to respond and compose to Jessies Lloyds research within Brixton’s community. – We then promptly entered the Covid era.. We’re really delighted to say we’ve since built a really good collaborative working relationship, together making sure the seeds of Jessie Lloyd’s residency in Brixton have grown and blossomed into something we’re really proud of: Songstreets – An art project that is both rooted in the Black and Caribbean community of Brixton and that has tendrils that reach deep down under responding to Jessies perspective too.

Jessie Lloyd is an award-winning Indigenous Australian singer, social historian and cultural practitioner of Indigenous song, who revives the music of Indigenous Elders in Australia. As with Jessie’s MISSION SONGS PROJECT, in Brixton she embarked on a musical journey with the local community, to research and reveal the forgotten stories and unexplored corners of recent history. Her process ranged from collaborating with the community to compose new songs, to recording existing songs that the community felt served to trigger and carry stories, to writing her own inspired by these encounters.
Tony Cealy >> Artist & Lead Narrator
Arts Practitioner and Trainer for Drama and Theatre. Producer of Programmes, Workshops and Theatre Projects. Born in Brixton, a child of the Windrush, Tony is one of those people you cant walk 20 yards down the road with, without bumping into someone he knows, whose smile and greeting leads to conversation. – He was a key person opening the doors for Jessie into this community. Walking and talking with Tony, recording the stories that emerge from these streets and the characters we encountered on our various journey’s provided the pot of sauces to cook up this piece and fed the threads to weave these songs around these streets. As Practitioner, Tony uses drama and theatre to encourage self-awareness and to assist individuals in exploring the idea of change and the impact that it may have on their lives. His projects and programmes vary from more recreational, usually drama-based activities leading to theatre or digital multimedia productions, to institutional change, to founding and running groups that are empowered to make this happen. https://tonycealy.com/

Drawing on over 20 yrs of experience in both the corporate and Arts sector, Gesture offers an end-to-end design & development service.
Experienced in conducting R&D for organisations such as American Express, The Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA), Honeywell, Hitachi, UBS, EE and Tideway. Gesture has also produced interactive content for London Fashion Week, the Venice Biennale and the Science Museum.

What is it?
The Rogue Landlord and Agent Checker is a new public database introduced by Mayor Sadiq Khan. It names and shames unscrupulous private landlords and letting agents who have been prosecuted or fined for housing offences such as allowing homes to fall into a bad or dangerous condition – for example, through overcrowding, providing poor escape routes or badly maintained fire doors.
How does it work?
The checker allows you to find out whether a current or future landlord has a record of such offences, to help you make an informed choice about where you live. It will also allow you to easily report a landlord or agent whom you suspect of unscrupulous practices.
Who does the checker cover?
At the moment, landlords and agents from ten boroughs – Brent, Camden, Greenwich, Islington, Kingston, Newham, Southwark, Sutton, Waltham Forest and Westminster – are on the database. This will allow 600,000 tenants, a quarter of London renters, to check for rogue landlords and agents in their area.
What about other boroughs?
Eight more boroughs – Barking and Dagenham, Croydon, Enfield, Hackney, Haringey, Lewisham, Redbridge and Tower Hamlets – will submit records to the database in the next few weeks. The Mayor wants all London councils to add their data, to help protect tenants in their areas.
What information is on there?
You can use the checker to see:
o Landlords and agents’ full names
o What type of action was taken against them, for what offence, and any fines
o Who undertook the enforcement – for example, a London borough
o The address of the property where the offence took place
o Part of the landlord’s home address
For legal reasons, names are only visible to the public for a limited time, typically 12 months. A private database will hold records for up to 10 years, to allow authorities to get a full picture of a landlord or agent’s past when conducting investigations.

This is Mervelee Myers the Criminal needing Emotional Regulation Treatment to cover the miscarriages of justice by the Judiciary of England Wales. The Criminal Justice System and Crown Prosecution Service colluded with A-Z of criminals in the “Systemic Discrimination” that is part and parcel of the “Munchausen by Proxy” that impacted on my HUSBAND and my health. The apprentice confided in me about his depression, the result of his cousin in jail for the murder of Ben Kinsella.

Since my life has been turned upside down right after returning from Jamaica on the 8th July 2014 to attend my mother’s funeral. I have had to deal with some real life issues that changed the course of my life in the workplace that I was always proud thinking I was part of a valued team. Soon after my return from Jamaica, where I experienced a number of transitions throughout 22nd December 2013 to 8th July 2014, I was to face discrimination that deprived me of my Human Rights. This ill treatment started soon after I transferred from Luton Street, Edgeware Road, North West London to Bird in Bush off the Old Kent Road South East London.
I started working with London Early Years Foundation (LEYF) on the 1st September 2009 and as can be verified from my contributions to making the organisation a beacon in the early years sectors. I was flabbergasted when in October of 2014, the same month LEYF gave me a CEO Long Service Award, the BIB team set about terrorising me at the instigation of the area manager Hilda Miller who was new to LEYF, same as the BIB that were a new acquisition after the takeover. By the time of my attending the wedding of a former colleague on the 4th January 2015 I was literally a “sitting duck in the pond because I did not learn to swim” resulting from my childhood traumas that led to my “hidden disabilities” that was to change my life for the next forty six (46) years.
My #FIGHT4JUSTICE is already partially documented about the discrimination I experienced at LEYF from October 2014 to date. But LEYF and their corrupted cohorts that have set about to directly and indirectly discriminate against me will be in for a shock now that I have received the documentations and is able to put all the evidence together and will be putting them in the public domain. My main reason is so that LEYF do not think they can get away with treating their employees less than an animal the way they have done me, and think they can get away with it. Because they have friends in high places who will turn a blind eye and take their money to help them cover up breaches of the national laws, home country legislation, codes of practices and conducts.
Change of Lifestyles
I have been forced to change my entire lifestyle because of LEYF discrimination when my life was turned upside down and my disabilities exacerbated. Instead of been unbiased, none judgemental, respecting my rights not to be discriminated against, LEYF joined BIB to make my life a living hell from 5th January 2015… As a result of LEYF determination to ruin my life by fair or foul means I have been out of work since 27th September 2015. Despite my best efforts to get back into work by embarking on studies, etc., I am still not successful because of the networking and blacklisting against my name from I was proactive in ensuring I am discriminated against. Being out of work is one of the hardest things I have had to deal with for reasons that I shared with LEYF. But that did not seem to make any difference when LEYF set out to deny me of my rights.
Not having a job means that I have got to alter my entire life to suit the circumstances I am now in through no faults of my own. The SYSTEMS that I thought were in place to support and advise me for a variety of reasons: paying my tax, paying the trade union dues for when I should find myself in this situation again. Only to be let down at the final hurdles like what have been happening to me from 2004 when I was defrauded. These days I don’t have the resources nor the inclinations to be the “Social Butterfly” I was before LEYF changed into the “Corporate PSYCHOPATHS” that set about destroying the life of others that they view as threats to their incompetence.
In order to go to the theatre these days is like a treat that I have to save up for like the “Christmas presents my Parents used to save for to give us” when I was growing up. Therefore I have to be “picky and choosy” these day about going out, so that’s why I now stick to well-known names like Oliver Samuels. Yesterday at The Broadway Theatre & Studio at Catford, I was experiencing some of the realities of my life played out in comedy by the casts of “Guilt Trip” in live and living colours. Since some of the comedy was centred on Westmoreland the parish of my birth and where I spent all of my life before coming to the UK, I could relate to the play unfolding before my very eyes.
I can testify that the comedy resonate with me for so many reasons that it was uncanny and I had no options but to get into reflective mood even when I was sat in the theatre and enjoying the comedy unfolding. I would entreat anyone of Jamaican heritage who would like to get an insight into the many issues that might affect us throughout our transitions through life to get a hold of it. This is a true life story about life in Jamaica from “Cradle to the Grave”, and how much we are affected by issues that sometimes are none of our making. My old folks used to say “Once a Man, Twice a Child” and now that I have had the opportunity to live away from Jamaica, I can relate to a lifestyle that is totally different from that which I was used to in Jamaica.
Seeing the comedy played out on stage at the Broadway Theatre, Catford SE6 4RU by these actors and actress, who could put their personal touches to making the scenarios come to life. Serves to help me reflect on my life since I got back from burying my mother in July. Because since I arrived in Jamaica on the 22nd December 2013, my second son’s birthdate, I have had the opportunities to make the most revealing discoveries that changed my life for good. I went to Jamaica to attend my son’s wedding on New Year’s Day 2014, the son I had despaired was ever going to settle down. During my time in Jamaica, I spent quality time with my “mother who had dementia that I diagnosed” years previously.
I learned more about my mother in four (4) weeks than I had known about her before. Although she did not recognise me, I knew the day when I was leaving to come back to the UK and she came around telling my son she didn’t come to say goodbye, that I would be saying my final goodbye then. I kept abreast of everything happening with mum over the next few months and on the day she drew her lost breathe, although I was here, it was like I was at her bedside. I returned to bury my mother, attended my grandson’s graduation. My grandson was the valedictorian and got a scholarship to one of the most prestigious high schools in Jamaica – Munro College.
Despite my recent bereavement, work kept me going so I went back to work after my transfer was granted. I made valuable contributions as per usual, so it was a surprise to me when history repeated itself and the BIB team started to mistreat me. When I relied on my employers for support, they joined in to discriminate against me and destroy my health. My story is been told all over Social Media as I refuse to go away and let LEYF get away with what they have done to destroy my career and health in the process. I think it is important for me to share my experiences with the world about the way I was treated by LEYF so they don’t get away with putting another employee through what they done to me right after I got back from burying my mother.
“Oliver Samuels in Guilt Trip” for me is comedy replicating real life. My advice to LEYF is that they get some real life scenarios life the show I went to watch last night to give them an insight in the real world. I was instrumental in using my “Intellectual Properties to making LEYF a beacon of best inclusive practice” from 1.9.2009 to 27.9.2015. However LEYF changed into the PSYCHOPATHS I am unable to recognise once they decided to be the biggest in the early years sector regardless of the consequences to the children who deserve much more and the parents that expect quality instead of the quantity LEYF is offering.
Mervelee Myers the Author of “IN HONOUR OF STRONG WOMEN EVERYWHERE” is privilege to be celebrating the life of Mr. Eric J. Porter aka Man-Man with his family and friends with my tribute. I must, therefore, apply a saying from Nelson Mandela “The Purpose of Freedom is to Create for Others”. I was honoured to meet Mr. Porter when I was sent to Elim House to find Aubyn Graham by a lady I meet in Bermondsey Southwark where I have been living the past 23 years 2000.
I will share the story about how Mr. Porter and Mervelee Myers became friends playing DOMINOES. Sometimes we were playing alone until we are joined by Fitz, the Driver of Elim House. My visits to Elim House were my escape from what my life had become after the death of my MOTHER with DEMENTIA in 2004.
As Mr. Porter’s generation are on transitions like my 101-year-old husband ARNOLD EBENEZER TOMLINSON who died in April 2024. I must confess that I was attracted to Mr. Porter because he and my husband were BORN in March. To share one of Marcus Garvey’s PHILOSOPHY. “If We as a PEOPLE Realised the GREATNESS from Which We CAME We Would be Less Likely to DISRESPECT Ourselves”.
Mervelee Myers must use the passing of Mr. Porter to highlight the LIVITY and UPLIFTMENT of the AFRICAN CARIBBEAN PEOPLE with our CONTRIBUTIONS and CONDOLENCES for the loss of another STALWART from the local communities. Who rendered his services and has gone on before to RIP.
People Of Mr. Porter’s age are known as “The Windrush Generation”. The Windrush Generation made valuable contributions to the United Kingdom UK from the Empire Windrush arrives here in June 1948. In honouring Mr. Porter for his contributions, we must be aware that DISCRIMINATION is taking tolls on “Future Windrush Generation” in 2024.
Today as we gather to celebrate the life of Mr. Porter let us start by honouring and acknowledging the roles of some of the persons amongst US. They are non-other than Rastafari Birdlegs as I must share my story of how Rastafari Birdlegs featured me on his Black Perspective Exhibition at Elim House. When I reached the end of my tether, caring for my HUSBAND. His place was where I found REFUGE “Creating the Legacies” from stories of the INJUSTICES faced by the “Windrush Generation” still happening in 2024.
Let me give Mr. Porter’s son Louis who I meet at Rastafari Birdlegs place a “Special Mention”. Growing up with seven (BROTHERS) I can understand why a SON would give up his worldly POSSESSION and DEDICATE his LIFE to CARING for his FATHER. Can I ask everyone celebrating with the PORTER Family to spare a thought for the “Windrush Generation” missing out on CARE.
May the ANCESTORS bless and guide Mr. Porter’s FAMILY and FRIENDS at this time of TRANSITIONING.

Time limit
There’s no time limit for making a complaint about the police, but if you complain about something that happened more than 12 months ago, we’ll ask you to tell us why you didn’t complain sooner.
Incidents you’ve seen on TV or social media
You can’t make a complaint about something you’ve seen the police do on TV or social media or heard about from another person. This is because you haven’t witnessed the incident yourself or been directly affected by it. But you can still tell us about your concerns.

I am mindful of my blessings for many reasons and this came into play last night. My Tomm was watching the Snooker Live Pro on the TV & I was busy on the computer. I could hear him willing #RannyOSullivan on… Went to the kitchen to tidy up & came back & my Tom was #Jubilant… He had his disappointment early when despite me telling him not to just back a horse to #Win, he did & lost all his money. The horse placed #2nd. To be honest that is minior to TOM because he #Gambles!!!
In bed he said he had a #Dream in the week that he won “Three Hundred & Fity Thousand Pounds”. I asked him where that is going to come from & he siad must be the #Lottery. I saiud to him ok, we will watch this #Dream.
But strangely enough I woke this morning & the 1st thing that came to my mind was what happened at my #AuntieMelliehome when I visited JA for my #2Son Mr Valdin Legister wedding in 2014. On the day my #Cuz Mr Hayden Salmon took me out by the #SpanishTownHighway, I don’t know if he remembers his parting conversation to me…? This is exactly what came back to me this morning. Us #NEMBHARD are #CHRISTIANS regardless of the #Denomination we choose to #Worship. That’s why this morning I am up & deciding to let the Lord do Thy will & leads me wherever He wants me to follow?

For those of U whose BD I’ve missed- Happy belated! & 4 those whom I will surely be missing take a bow on my b1/2 on the day? I am 1 Tired Wreck, but I am still Soldiering on>>> Have 2 work right up til my travels, but if my Ghana Sis Madonna can do it, so will I, even if I am abt 2 Drop? Yesterday was 1 Interesting & Productive day & I got the opps 2 be Challenged from I left my home until I got back indoors… So BTU 2 all my colleagues at LEYF-LS – Suzanne, Michelle Hoofong, et al who supported me all the way! With Ur help I was empowered to brighten 1 LEL on the day she celebrated her 83rd BD.
I am sure my CEO who is an advocate of Multi-Intergenerational would be more than plzed about the work WE continue to do at LS to make this a Reality? Lets hope Eileen Parker whom I sometimes escorted home when I see her at the BS at Alscot Rd really appreciated the card the children made 4 her? Next time I see her am sure she will tell me even if when I talk she says “I CAN’T HEAR U, I AM DEAF…” So it was from 1 end of the MIG process of the ELDERLY to the very YOUNG! Changes of any kinds do have an IMPACT on the VO as well as the VY, so these groups just don’t do things differently because they want to make OUR life a Living Nightmare? The morale of the story WE are never too OLD to LEARN?
Sumtimes I do get besides myself when the CofW seem to tumble down on ME & I get STRESSED>>> But as Suzanne would say Mervelee has a Big Heart & even when I go under my BH will always be there for EVERY1!
