Jamaican has seen almost 60,000 births to mothers under age 20 over the last decade.
A whopping total of 59,591 births to adolescents were recorded between 2009 and 2019, according to data provided by the Statistical Institute of Jamaica (Statin). This number accounts for 16 per cent of total births within the period.
The years: 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014 saw the highest percentage of such occurrences with 17; 17.9; 18; 18; and 17 per cent, respectively.
In addition, the Jamaica Observer has learnt that some of the young mothers account for multiple births.
Dr O’Neil Ankle, principal at Jonathan Grant High School, told the Sunday Observer that prior to the novel coronavirus pandemic he counted more than 18 young women at his school who had already had a child.
โOne of them already had two children. That’s the same reason I was going on like that. I met with 18 of them and we talked and shared things. And these children are not dunce. They are bright,โ he said.
Ankle was making reference to a virtual orientation session, that went viral last September, in which he was heard telling his young male students: โTwo minute man unnuโฆ put a block pon yuh penis and calm yuhself and concentrate pon the nine or five subjects that you’re going to do and stop focus pon front.โ

But if young boys are a part of the issue, it’s going to come down to education and letting them understand the importance of education in its true sense and that to carry a child in this world is a responsible activity,โ he said.
โAnd to take care of that child and manage education where you want to have your subjects and move on to university, those two things don’t really walk in the same lane because you now have the responsibility to try and get an education and to take care of a mouth that you never really prepared for,โ he added, noting that in most cases the fathers leave the young mothers to fend for themselves or drop out of school.
Former national director of Jamaica Youth for Christ (JYC), Reverend Herro Blair Jr told the Sunday Observer that the number of births to adolescents was alarming. He further reasoned that these births contribute to the โdecline of Jamaicaโ.
โA vast majority of these children will be the boys that are standing on the roadside. A vast majority will be the children who have children. The worst thing happening in Jamaica right now is, one, our uncontrollable desire to allow the sexual culture to go the way it is going; and two, the fact that this large number of teenage pregnancies is contributing to the negative climate and the negative economy of our country,โ said Blair Jr.
โWhen I was growing up, children went to church even if their parents didn’t go to church. Now, a lot of those children are not even going to church. So, when I meet a boy in Olympic Gardens and he tells me that he’s 15 years old and he’s a gunman, I can understand because he has no sense of value.โ
The lack of value for life, he reasoned, has to be addressed.
โYou look at our gunmen today, just walking up in crowds and shooting up people, or just doing whatever they want. They’ve lost all sense of value for life. Spend time and money on making sure that the children โ those being born today and those in primary school today โ learn the life skill of conflict resolution, respect and value so that as they grow, the country itself can be a better place,โ Blair Jr said.
But early pregnancy does not mean that all is lost, argued 31-year-old Petagay Pinnock, who became a mother at age 15. Today, she has five Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) subjects and is a scholarship recipient at University College of the Caribbean (UCC).
โMy advice to teen mothers is to go right back to schoolโฆ don’t wait,โ she said.
โThere are places that are free or come with a small cost. I know it’s hard and you might think there’s no way to get back on track, but I can tell you there’s always a way. You just have to be determined to succeed and you will. If I was as determined as I am now, I would have already achieved all I’m achieving now. So, take the step while you are young and be as driven, dedicated, and determined and all things will be possible,โ she added.
Otisa Wilmoth, past head girl of Green Pond High School, also got pregnant during high school. With six grade ones in grade 11, Wilmoth was the top CSEC performer at Green Pond in 2020.
She hopes her success, despite her pregnancy, shows other young girls in a similar situation that it is not the end of the road.
โMy words of advice are to never give up and they should believe in themselves and know that if they weren’t strong, they would not have been able to survive child-birth. It’s not the end of the road for them as there will always be trials and struggles, but we are mothers now and our children need us to pave the way for a better future for them,โ she said.
โBeing a teenaged mom means that it’s not just you anymore; you have a young one looking up to you. They need to see that you are strong and that you are doing what’s right,โ Wilmoth stated.
She added that many teen moms get pregnant a second time because their families turn their backs on them.
โDon’t let that stop you. People will always leave when things aren’t in their interest or going their way anymore. Just know that a higher education is what’s going to prove to the world that we are survivors, and one wrong judgement in life can’t spoil our futures forever. We are going to continue to work hard and excel because we are not just living for ourselves, we are living for our child as well. I will never let anyone, or anything, stop me because my son is counting on me,โ Wilmoth told the Sunday Observer.
However, Principal Ankle believes that there is need for guidance for youngsters, especially young men.
โI don’t know where the fathers are who can help these young men to understand that listen, what is between your legs is not something that you throw all over the place. It’s something that you manage under control. And I can’t say it any plainer. It makes no sense I pretty up this. Boys getting these girls pregnant… adults getting these girls pregnant… soldiers are getting these girls pregnant… all pastors get involved in it too. I have seen some casesโฆ trust me, I can write a book,โ Ankle said.
โThey believe that they can go around and become sperm donors because it’s an image in our society. It’s an image that we need to get rid of. They just believe they can go around and have children and move to the next girl โ and it’s something that I’ve been trying to get into the boys at Johnathan Grant. When you see me go on the way I went on, it’s because I live it. I experience it yearly,โ he said.
Startled by the data on pregnancy among adolescents, Reverend Stephen Smith, Baptist minister and guidance counsellor at Calabar High School, called for swift justice, especially for underaged girls who are impregnated.
โThese figures are quite staggering. In fact, they are alarming. It speaks to what is happening in our society and what needs to be done as it relates to those who are responsible for impregnating those who are underage, according to the law. We need, as a nation, to allow the law where these things are concerned to have teeth,โ he said.
Outside of that, he said: โThe Church must continue to play its part through its teachings to help young people to understand that they should wait until they reach adulthood and have their careers clear before them, before they think of becoming parents.โ

I will stop wearing my heart on my sleeve and start shielding myself from hurt like #Mama did. So as of now I will adhere to the Facebook Profile which I snatched… Will I ever stop #Loving, no? But as of now it’s on my #TermsAlone. Anyone, no matter who, want to be a part of my life and #SharemyLOVE will have to prove they are #Worthy.
I am just trying to come to terms with my life. Papa’s early onset #ParkinsonDisease that change the #FamilyDynamics. Most of all Mama’s strength in carrying on despite the odds in keeping her #FamilyTogether. She did not have the #EmotionalIntelligence to communicate her situation, but she lived a life of #Servitude_Caring_Sharing until it was her time to be cared for.
I will go into the NY 2017 knowing I have given of my best unstinting and there’s nothing I could have done differently. I won’t give up on love, I will be the same old me… But I have to #ProtectMyself from the hurt inflicted from #December2013 to date. I will shed my tears, lick my wounds, appreciate my blessings and move on with my life.
As of now anyone is welcome under my #Terms_Conditions. I will stop pinning after lost love, missed opportunities and worrying about what others think or do. Borrowing from a #Friend_Only_God_Alone_Can_Judge_Us! If God doesn’t decree it and it is done in mysterious ways, it will be #Revealed.
I know this is Satan’s plan to stop me so the #CROSSES can get away with what they did to me after #MAMADied. Everyone has a #Conscience and I will examine mine and others do too?

I had to attend CMC 3 times for another Malicious Report of Ms Gilchrist resulting in a REPORT by Julie Olayinka DEFAMING my name. I had to go for interview at Walworth Police Station on 3/2/2023. The Police are still investigating. My husband and I got separated. In the BUNDLE that Ms Masera asked Stephen Agera to DESTROY it is said that the Police was called by a neighbour I abused.

Jamaican has seen almost 60,000 births to mothers under age 20 over the last decade.
A whopping total of 59,591 births to adolescents were recorded between 2009 and 2019, according to data provided by the Statistical Institute of Jamaica (Statin). This number accounts for 16 per cent of total births within the period.
The years: 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014 saw the highest percentage of such occurrences with 17; 17.9; 18; 18; and 17 per cent, respectively.
In addition, the Jamaica Observer has learnt that some of the young mothers account for multiple births.
Dr O’Neil Ankle, principal at Jonathan Grant High School, told the Sunday Observer that prior to the novel coronavirus pandemic he counted more than 18 young women at his school who had already had a child.
โOne of them already had two children. That’s the same reason I was going on like that. I met with 18 of them and we talked and shared things. And these children are not dunce. They are bright,โ he said.
Ankle was making reference to a virtual orientation session, that went viral last September, in which he was heard telling his young male students: โTwo minute man unnuโฆ put a block pon yuh penis and calm yuhself and concentrate pon the nine or five subjects that you’re going to do and stop focus pon front.โ

Ankle explained that his candid and passionate talk with the students was driven by the reality at the school โ realities, he added, that affect students’ studies.
Student mothers, he said, would ask: โSir, can I go home?โ
When he asks, โWhy do you want to go home?โ the students, he said, would respond: โSir, the lady who is taking care of my child is leaving an mi don’t have anybody to take care of my child.โ
โWhat do I do? Tell the student she can’t go? She has to go,โ he said.
Ankle, however, told the Sunday Observer that from observation, schoolboys aren’t solely responsible for impregnating their peers.
โWhile many of the students would’ve got pregnant courtesy of these young boys, many are done by adults, not schoolboys โ adults 21 and upwards. Adults that are in jobs and not young boys. But if young boys are a part of the issue, it’s going to come down to education and letting them understand the importance of education in its true sense and that to carry a child in this world is a responsible activity,โ he said.
โAnd to take care of that child and manage education where you want to have your subjects and move on to university, those two things don’t really walk in the same lane because you now have the responsibility to try and get an education and to take care of a mouth that you never really prepared for,โ he added, noting that in most cases the fathers leave the young mothers to fend for themselves or drop out of school.
Former national director of Jamaica Youth for Christ (JYC), Reverend Herro Blair Jr told the Sunday Observer that the number of births to adolescents was alarming. He further reasoned that these births contribute to the โdecline of Jamaicaโ.
โA vast majority of these children will be the boys that are standing on the roadside. A vast majority will be the children who have children. The worst thing happening in Jamaica right now is, one, our uncontrollable desire to allow the sexual culture to go the way it is going; and two, the fact that this large number of teenage pregnancies is contributing to the negative climate and the negative economy of our country,โ said Blair Jr.
โWhen I was growing up, children went to church even if their parents didn’t go to church. Now, a lot of those children are not even going to church. So, when I meet a boy in Olympic Gardens and he tells me that he’s 15 years old and he’s a gunman, I can understand because he has no sense of value.โ
The lack of value for life, he reasoned, has to be addressed.
โYou look at our gunmen today, just walking up in crowds and shooting up people, or just doing whatever they want. They’ve lost all sense of value for life. Spend time and money on making sure that the children โ those being born today and those in primary school today โ learn the life skill of conflict resolution, respect and value so that as they grow, the country itself can be a better place,โ Blair Jr said.
But early pregnancy does not mean that all is lost, argued 31-year-old Petagay Pinnock, who became a mother at age 15. Today, she has five Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) subjects and is a scholarship recipient at University College of the Caribbean (UCC).
โMy advice to teen mothers is to go right back to schoolโฆ don’t wait,โ she said.
โThere are places that are free or come with a small cost. I know it’s hard and you might think there’s no way to get back on track, but I can tell you there’s always a way. You just have to be determined to succeed and you will. If I was as determined as I am now, I would have already achieved all I’m achieving now. So, take the step while you are young and be as driven, dedicated, and determined and all things will be possible,โ she added.
Otisa Wilmoth, past head girl of Green Pond High School, also got pregnant during high school. With six grade ones in grade 11, Wilmoth was the top CSEC performer at Green Pond in 2020.
She hopes her success, despite her pregnancy, shows other young girls in a similar situation that it is not the end of the road.
โMy words of advice are to never give up and they should believe in themselves and know that if they weren’t strong, they would not have been able to survive child-birth. It’s not the end of the road for them as there will always be trials and struggles, but we are mothers now and our children need us to pave the way for a better future for them,โ she said.
โBeing a teenaged mom means that it’s not just you anymore; you have a young one looking up to you. They need to see that you are strong and that you are doing what’s right,โ Wilmoth stated.
She added that many teen moms get pregnant a second time because their families turn their backs on them.
โDon’t let that stop you. People will always leave when things aren’t in their interest or going their way anymore. Just know that a higher education is what’s going to prove to the world that we are survivors, and one wrong judgement in life can’t spoil our futures forever. We are going to continue to work hard and excel because we are not just living for ourselves, we are living for our child as well. I will never let anyone, or anything, stop me because my son is counting on me,โ Wilmoth told the Sunday Observer.
However, Principal Ankle believes that there is need for guidance for youngsters, especially young men.
โI don’t know where the fathers are who can help these young men to understand that listen, what is between your legs is not something that you throw all over the place. It’s something that you manage under control. And I can’t say it any plainer. It makes no sense I pretty up this. Boys getting these girls pregnant… adults getting these girls pregnant… soldiers are getting these girls pregnant… all pastors get involved in it too. I have seen some casesโฆ trust me, I can write a book,โ Ankle said.
โThey believe that they can go around and become sperm donors because it’s an image in our society. It’s an image that we need to get rid of. They just believe they can go around and have children and move to the next girl โ and it’s something that I’ve been trying to get into the boys at Johnathan Grant. When you see me go on the way I went on, it’s because I live it. I experience it yearly,โ he said.
Startled by the data on pregnancy among adolescents, Reverend Stephen Smith, Baptist minister and guidance counsellor at Calabar High School, called for swift justice, especially for underaged girls who are impregnated.
โThese figures are quite staggering. In fact, they are alarming. It speaks to what is happening in our society and what needs to be done as it relates to those who are responsible for impregnating those who are underage, according to the law. We need, as a nation, to allow the law where these things are concerned to have teeth,โ he said.
Outside of that, he said: โThe Church must continue to play its part through its teachings to help young people to understand that they should wait until they reach adulthood and have their careers clear before them, before they think of becoming parents.โ

I was advised by Voice Solicitor Arwen Makin and given a Union Rep Darren Mahon to instruct and represent me at the Disciplinary Hearing. The saddest thing of all after attending the Hearing and promising to help me get a Settlement from LEYF, he disappeared without trace. But surprising of all was Solicitor Arwen Makin advice over the telephone that I should not appeal the Disciplinary. When I asked her to put in writing she lied and that has been my life from then.
Use of my Data Fraudulently
Voice continue giving me advice that was not conducive to managing my Disabilities that were triggered using Data from my FILE, that I was refused access by LEYF. My email was used for online DBS application after LEYF refused to send me the link. My correspondences with VOICE are proof of the approach they adopted once Darren Mahon disappeared. Not much have changed, except that VOICE is another of those taking my money and contributing to my Mental and Physical decline since the death of my mother and LEYF deciding to target me.

How The County Court at Clerkenwell & Shoreditch continues Discrimination?
Following the correspondences from the above accepting VOICE defence of the claim and setting out dates. How can District Judge Manners have a sitting at the County Court at Clerkenwell & Shoreditch on 13 February 2020 to strike out my Claim as being totally without merit there being no discernible cause of action against the Defendant? As a result of the DISCRIMINATION by the above I have taken them to County Court Money Claims Centre. Because they started the discrimination with my claims against Winsome Duncan after we reached Telephone Mediation. Once again, my VULNERABILITY is used against me to trigger my PTSD. I should not still have to deal with F22YM276 because the Judges at the above decided to join discrimination against me striking out my claim. Without Prejudice it is proven fact that www.moneyclaim.gov.uk is party to discrimination against me in the way my claims have been strike out. Or where judgement was passed Claim Number: F56YJ215 against https://www.ryanclement.com and I have not received my money. The Court Enforcement Services www.courtenforcementservices.co.uk Telephone: 01992-367-090 Email: b.porter@courtenforcementservices.co.uk is another of those joining forces to discriminate against me. Yet the Claim is amongst those sent to Central London County Court for Designated Civil District Judge to impose Restraint Order. When I done the research and found out HHJ Marc Dight has a misconduct from http://judicialconduct.judiciary.gov.uk he was replaced by HHJ Parfitt.

I was privilege to perform with The Elephant & Castle Community HUB Choir at the Shakespeare’s Globe celebrating “A Concert for Winter”. I visited for the Dress Rehearsal on the 4th for the first time. Then we were ready for the performance on the day. This was truly an amazing place to share such a #poignant occasion for some of us who were meeting for such short notice at the Choir Practice.
Credit must be given to #Rona the Leader who worked hard getting us ready to perform on such a stage that’s the Shakespeare Globe. This will add to helping me #CreatingtheLegacies as a writer. I had done “Introducting to Acting at #MorleyCollege and the feedback from the Tutor also helped with giving me the #confidence to take my place with the members of the E&CCHC and doing ourselves proud.
Who knows, my next big performance might be at the Goble again? I thorougly enjoyed the time I spent at the Globe. It’s an #experience that will be part of my #history. I don’t have any photos of the Globe here, but I have others that can tell the story about my #singing.
Singing is more than #therapy. My parents meet at a “Wake Night Singing”. But most importantly #Parkinson’s although rob me of my Father, I was blessed to have him helping with my son Kevin Murray. He would sing whilst I get on with the duties. Even though #dementia had taken my mother, and she didn’t remember her only #daughter. I could reach her with SINGING the last few weeks I was with her before she rested from her toils.
The experience at the Globe helped me to #realise I can #perform on any stage, and I can do it on my own. I guess it takes performing at the Globe to help me #banish the #fears of letting myself down.

But not only that, the crowbaites scavengers get Facebook and Twitter Legal Teams to write me. So I returned the favours to all 3, expecting at least FB would have known better by then after blocking me so many times.
Oh yes, I am still waiting for them. The Department for Work and Pensions – DWP, HMRC, #TutuAdebiyi from HCT learning centre, #LizRoberts from the Nursery World Magazine and others to be named all played their roles in dishing out the discriminataion. But my biggest challenges was with #JohnFenton who did not seem able to accomplish the EYFS Prime area, much more specific.
I hope they are aware I told #DilysEpton at the HOC on the 27th when she come to try and stitch me up, sending me to rest from my ordeals that work keeps me going. The statement is in the Bundles.
So I am getting on with my writing to earn my keep that I am getting from Universal Credit. Tomorrow is another deadline and I am here waiting on them.

The way I work is to do a rough draft and carry on from there. I done my research and I’ll be using information from a variety of sources. Who knows this might propel me to achieving my goal in 2018?

I have being an African Princess from 2004 when I went to christen my Murray Grandson in regal splendour. My family came from USA & it was 1 happy occasion when every1 meet up at the Big Yard. BYRON has gone on to HS, Mum has joined him & I am missing more of my F/F/A over this 10 year period. Today is a time for REFLECTIONS about the Persons & things that are important & mean much to US? As my elder breda Balis always say “I don’t want to keep on saying if me did know…” So as of now I am making the changes & looking forward to having more FAMILY Time if even from a Distance?
Remembering all those Persons who lost their lives in the that tragedy that I only heard about 10 years ago when it happened. Trust me I don’t even know how to spell the name either. I was in JA for the christening of my MURRAY grandson & I met my Legister grand daughter for the 1st time. That was 10 years ago & I wanted my grandson to be blessed with the name IVAN to honour his 2 granddads. But sadly the hurricane came & put a spanner in the spokes. I was listening to that story about the lady who survived & named her child that Tsunami after that tragedy that they escaped from. Yes so here is my Little Lad of a Murray grand boy Tugs, who is now 10+ years & counting. Congratz to Kevin Murray & Donnette & I am hoping U not planning on being a Celebrity
