World Heart Day is observed on the 29th of September each year. The theme for World Heart Day is ‘Use Heart To Beat Cardiovascular Disease.’ World Heart Day is used as an opportunity to create awareness about different conditions that can affect your heart.
Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is responsible for nearly half of all non-communicable disease (NCD) deaths making it the world’s number one killer.
Jamaica remains committed to reducing mortality from non-communicable disease (NCDs) by 25% by 2025. Let us unite in the fight against CVD and reduce the global disease burden.

I must say thanks to Olive Regis-Williams for the support from the very first day we meet at Storm Family Centre. I have been paid the most beautiful compliment today by my BaJam breda Sammy. He said “You are a CONFIDENT Person”. I told him about you and where I was at when we meet because of LEYF Nurseries. That’s why those 3 Judges from the Employment tribunal will not define #MERVELEEMYERS. I doubt very much they stick to the Employment legislation and Employment Tribunal Law and Employment Tribunals Act 1996? They allow the Trainee Barrister #SamathaJones to confuse them. But what did I expect when they allow her to get away with the SICKIE after telling them she’d not prepared the case? #CREDIBLE_WITNESS indeed

Our Ref: 166096/LD

Dear Mrs Myers

Customer Reference Number: 19543081915

Thank you for your email dated 20 September 2021, which I am responding to

in line with our complaints process.

I am sorry to read the details of your complaint, and I can only imagine

the worry and distress you must feel when asked for additional medical

evidence to support your Disabled Students’ Allowances (DSA) application

for the 2021/22 academic year, without being given a clear explanation as

to why.

We are not responsible for setting student finance policy or eligibility

criteria. We were set up by the Department for Education (DfE) to

administer the Student Loan Scheme within the Regulations set by

Government. The responsibility for setting Regulations rests with

Parliament and relevant Ministers and we do not have any discretion in

their application.

I have completed a full investigation on your account to establish what has

gone wrong. This is so we can learn from your feedback and improve the

service we offer all our customers.

DSA support is intended to ensure that all students can enter higher

education on a level playing field. Students with a disability or long-term

medical condition can apply for funding and be assessed to determine what

additional support would help them to study to the best of their ability.

When a student applies for DSA funding they must first provide medical

evidence confirming their disability or long-term health condition. The

evidence must confirm that this is long term and how it affects their

day-to-day life. Once we have reviewed and accepted this, we will issue

correspondence to a student confirming that they can arrange to have a

Study Needs Assessment carried out. The Needs Assessment Centre will carry

this out and then send the Needs Assessment Report to us with

recommendations for support to help the student with their disability

related needs. We will then review this and issue correspondence

confirming the support, we have agreed. Please be aware we can only agree

to provide the most cost-effective solution to meet a student’s disability

related needs and we require all recommendations to come from a Needs

Assessor.

If we have not accepted medical evidence for a particular condition, we are

unable to consider any recommendations from a Needs Assessor related to

this.

Following the review of the medical evidence submitted to support your DSA

application, we have accepted them for Anxiety and Depression, which was

also confirmed on the Disability Evidence form completed by your doctor. I

must however make you aware that Anxiety and Depression were the only

medical conditions declared on the form.

Unfortunately, we have not accepted the medical evidence for Diabetes,

Arthritis and Chronic Pain. The only evidence we have received for Diabetes

is a doctors summary, which has entries from 2015 for diabetes but they say

this is under “good control”. To be accepted for a disability, we need to

know the condition has an adverse daily effect on your ability to carry out

normal day to day activities.

I have checked all the evidence we have received and there is no mention of

Arthritis or Chronic Pain.

I understand that you requested that your doctor completes a Disability

Evidence form after we rejected all your evidence initially. We are

uncertain why your doctor only confirmed Anxiety and Depression on the form

and not your other medical conditions. As such, we contacted you by email

and letter on 15 and 18 September 2021. We confirmed that we have accepted

medical evidence for two conditions and rejected for three. We requested

further medical evidence for Diabetes, Arthritis and Chronic Pain and as we

have accepted your evidence for Anxiety and Depression, we asked you to

arrange to attend a Needs Assessment Centre.

I have located the calls you made to us on 20 September 2021 and listened

to the recordings. The first person that you spoke with transferred your

call to a DSA advisor. It was obvious that you were very upset that we had

rejected your medical evidence. The advisor clearly explained that we

would only accept evidence which confirms that the conditions have an

adverse daily effect on your ability to carry out normal day to day

activities. As you were unhappy with the process, the advisor sent you an

email and attached a leaflet on how to raise a formal complaint. I

understand however, in a further call that you made to us later that day,

that you were unable to open the attachment. The advisor that you spoke to

confirmed that you could raise a formal complaint by sending us an email.

Whilst I appreciate your frustration regarding our request for additional

medical evidence, once you have provided the information as detailed in our

email dated 15 September 2021, by digital upload, please contact me by

email at customer_complaints@slc.co.uk and I will arrange to process this

as a priority.

I am sorry that I cannot offer you the resolution you are seeking but I

trust that I have explained things clearly. Should you have any further

questions regarding your complaint, please contact me.

Yours sincerely

It is a fact I raised concerns at https://www.jobs.nhs.uk from 2004. Then in 2015 my email was used by LEYF for online DBS application. They overturned the UK Government Employment Law for employees to pay to take employers to the Employment Tribunal. ARNOLD E TOMLINSON

Date: 27-09-2021

Your NHS number: 462 977 4653

Dear ARNOLD E TOMLINSON,

I am writing to you because you were previously identified as clinically extremely vulnerable to COVID-19. This means you were thought to be at high risk of becoming very ill if you caught the virus and may have been advised to shield in the past.

The Government wrote to you in March to tell you that shielding advice was being paused from 1st April 2021. Since 19th July 2021, you have been advised to follow the same guidance as everyone else, whilst potentially thinking about extra precautions you could take to reduce your chance of catching COVID-19.

Now that vaccination has been offered to all of the adult population, including those previously identified as clinically extremely vulnerable, and other treatments and care pathways are available, I believe it is the right time to end the shielding programme. This means that given the current situation you will not be advised to shield in the future and we will not be providing specific national guidance for you to follow.

You should continue to follow the same general guidance as everyone else, which can be found at https://www.gov.uk/coronavirus, in addition to any condition specific advice you may have been given by your specialist in recent weeks. As someone with a health condition you might also want to think about extra things you can do to keep yourself and others safe. This could include:

1.       considering whether you and those you are meeting have been vaccinated – you might want to wait until 14 days after everyone’s second dose of a COVID-19 vaccine before being in close contact with others

2.       considering continuing to practise social distancing if that feels right for you and your friends

3.       asking friends and family to take a rapid lateral flow antigen test before visiting you

4.       asking home visitors to wear face coverings

5.       avoiding crowded spaces

At the start of the pandemic we knew very little about the threat posed by COVID-19 and made the difficult decision to advise people we considered to be clinically extremely vulnerable to shield to protect themselves from the virus. That was the right decision at the time and helped keep the most vulnerable safe whilst we learnt more about COVID-19.

I know shielding advice is restrictive and that it may affect both mental and physical wellbeing. It is therefore important that we get the balance right between protecting vulnerable people and helping everyone get back to a normal life.

Although cases have gone up, there has not been the same increase in people becoming seriously ill and needing to go to hospital or dying. This is mostly because the vaccination programme has been so successful. Being vaccinated is the best way to protect yourself and other people. Vaccines are very effective at stopping people from getting seriously ill from COVID-19 so I would strongly encourage you to get all recommended doses of the vaccine.

All Government decisions on shielding advice have been led by the latest scientific evidence and advice has been kept up to date. Now that the risk of becoming very ill is lower, I believe the time is right to end the shielding programme and recommend people with underlying health conditions return to their usual personal care patterns.

COVID-19 vaccines

Although most people will be well protected by the vaccine, no vaccine is 100% effective. In particular, people who are immunosuppressed may not respond as well to COVID-19 vaccines as others. That is why the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) advised on 1st September that people over the age of 12 who were severely immunosuppressed at or around the time of their first or second dose, should be offered a third dose of the vaccine to increase their chances of being protected against COVID-19 as part of their primary immunisation course. This advice might apply to you if you have a condition or take medication that affects your immune system but not everyone receiving this letter will be eligible for a third dose. More detail on who it applies to can be found here: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/third-primary-covid-19-vaccine-dose-for-people-who-are-immunosuppressed-jcvi-advice.

All COVID-19 vaccines should offer some protection so even if you have a condition or take medication that affects your immune system, you should still have the vaccine. The vaccine programme remains open and available for all those who are eligible. If you can’t have the vaccine for whatever reason, or if you are immunosuppressed, you should strongly consider taking the precautions listed at the start of this letter to help keep yourself and others safe.

Separately, the JCVI has published advice on the vaccine booster programme which can be found here: (https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/jcvi-statement-september-2021-covid-19-booster-vaccine-programme-for-winter-2021-to-2022/jcvi-statement-regarding-a-covid-19-booster-vaccine-programme-for-winter-2021-to-2022). It recommends that “individuals who received vaccination in Phase 1 of the COVID-19 vaccination programme (priority groups 1 to 9) should be offered a third dose COVID-19 booster vaccine. This includes:

1.       those living in residential care homes for older adults

2.       all adults aged 50 years or over

3.       frontline health and social care workers

4.       all those aged 16 to 49 years with underlying health conditions that put them at higher risk of severe COVID-19 (as set out in the green book: (https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/covid-19-the-green-book-chapter-14a), and adult carers

5.       adult household contacts (aged 16 or over) of immunosuppressed individuals”

You will be invited to book your vaccine by the NHS at least 6 months after your second dose if it is recommended for you.

I understand you may have concerns, and everyone will feel differently about their own risk, particularly those who may be less well protected by the vaccine.

If you are immunosuppressed and have any concerns about what this means for you, then please raise this with your specialist at your next routine appointment. They can provide you with support and guidance on any extra measures you can take to further reduce your risk of infection. Your GP is unlikely to be able to advise you on shielding issues as this requires specialist knowledge, so I would suggest not contacting them with queries about the shielding list. GPs are still open for general medical issues.

If you have not yet been vaccinated with your first or second dose then I would urge you to do so, and if you are eligible, to take the offer of a booster when it is your turn, to help keep you well.

Other treatments

Over the coming months we expect new treatments for COVID-19 to become available. When this happens, we will advise which patients could benefit.

It is really important that if you do a test because you have COVID-19 symptoms, you accurately enter your NHS Number and postcode into the Government website (found here https://test-for-coronavirus.service.gov.uk/register-home-test) so that your test result can be matched to your health records. Doing this will mean the NHS can contact you if you might benefit from a treatment.

Access to NHS Services

It is important that you continue to receive the care and support you need to help you stay safe and well. You should continue to get medical help from the NHS and other health providers for your existing health conditions and any new health concerns. You can access a range of NHS services from home, including ordering repeat prescriptions or contacting your health professional through an online consultation. To find out more visit https://www.nhs.uk/health-at-home, or download the NHS App. If you have an urgent medical need, you can access support and local services online at NHS 111 online (https://111.nhs.uk/), or call NHS 111 for free if you cannot use the internet. For a medical emergency, dial 999.

Mental Health Support

It is also really important to look after your mental health. You can access the Every Mind Matters website (https://www.nhs.uk/every-mind-matters) for advice and practical steps that you can take to support your wellbeing and manage your mental health. You can also access the Hub of Hope (https://www.hubofhope.co.uk) which tells you about support available in your area by entering your postcode.

If you or someone you care for is experiencing a mental health crisis, I urge you to make contact with a local health professional immediately. If you don’t have a health professional that you talk to regularly about your mental health, free NHS 24/7 crisis hotlines are available in every part of the country. You can find your local service at: https://www.nhs.uk/service-search/mental-health/find-an-urgent-mental-health-helpline or by searching ‘NHS crisis lines’.

Your local council may also run support networks or hubs, and there might be charities in your area that can provide you with any extra help you need. Your local council’s website will have more information about this.

As restrictions ease, many people will still feel lonely and isolated so it will be more important than ever to take action if you or someone you know is feeling lonely. Please visit https://letstalkloneliness.co.uk/ to access advice and support.

NHS Volunteer Responders are also available to help with things like collecting shopping, medication, or other essential supplies, and with transport to medical appointments. They can also provide a regular, friendly phone call. More information is available at https://www.nhsvolunteerresponders.org.uk, or you can call 0808 196 3646 between 8am and 8pm.

Other Support

I know that the COVID-19 pandemic may have had a significant impact on many aspects of your life, particularly when you were advised to shield. If you are struggling financially, or with returning to work, there are a range of services that may be useful depending on eligibility.

Access to Work can offer practical support to people who have a health condition that affects the way they work. The scheme can offer support, including mental health support for people returning to work after a period of furlough or shielding, and travel-to-work support for those who may no longer be able to safely travel by public transport. For more information, please visit: https://www.gov.uk/access-to-work.

If you are struggling financially, you may also be eligible to apply for Universal Credit or Employment Support Allowance. For more information on benefits, please visit: https://www.gov.uk/financial-help-disabled.

Supermarkets stopped providing priority access to supermarket slots to clinically extremely vulnerable people on the advice of government on 21st June. Different supermarkets may have their own policies on priority access to supermarket slots, however.

Your local council may also be able to help if you are in need of support. You can find your local council here: https://www.gov.uk/find-local-council.

You can also find advice published by ACAS and developed in conjunction with the flexible working task-force on hybrid working here: https://www.acas.org.uk/hybrid-working.

Your Data

During periods of shielding, you may have registered your details with the National Shielding Service System to get support; this has now ended. The privacy notice for this service has now been updated in line with the decision to end the shielding programme. If you’d like to find out more about your personal data, please see the updated privacy notice here: https://www.gov.uk/coronavirus-shielding-support.

NHS Digital maintains clinical records of patients and their treatments in accordance with all appropriate data governance requirements. For more information about how NHS Digital uses your personal data, please see their Transparency Notice here: https://digital.nhs.uk/coronavirus/shielded-patient-list/shielded-patient-list-transparency-notice.

I know that the pandemic has been a difficult time for everyone and recognise that it has been particularly hard if you have been advised to take extra precautions. The decision to include you as part of what was the clinically extremely vulnerable group was made to help keep you safe, based on the information that we had at the time. I thank you for your efforts to keep yourself and others safe.

Yours sincerely,

RT HON SAJID JAVID MP

Mervelee,

This week could have been Labour’s week to set our country on a new course. Labour Party members wanted it, other progressive parties wanted it, the public wanted it.

But Labour, or more precisely Keir Starmer and his team, didn’t.

Starmer could have easily persuaded one or two unions like Unison and USDAW to back the call for PR. He could have used his new ‘vision’ to make a firm commitment to equal votes and better representation. He could have lifted a finger for a real democracy.

But he decided not to.

During his leadership election campaign, he said: ‘we’ve got to address the fact that millions of peoples vote in safe seats, and they feel their votes don’t count’.

Well this week was your chance, Keir, and you did nothing.

So despite 83% of Labour members wanting PR, despite over 300 CLPs passing pro-PR resolutions and it being the most well-supported motion at conference, you did nothing but support a voting system that only works for the benefit of the Tories.

Well second place isn’t good enough for us.

It’s not good enough to stop climate chaos or heal our fractured society.

We look to Germany and get a glimpse of what we want – a better future most likely led by a social democratic party but involving Greens and Liberals.

We want that future. And we mean to have it.

Today we pledge:

To work with every progressive party and citizen who wants proportional representation so that we can tackle the climate crisis and build a more equal society.

We will work with every Labour supporter, member, councillor and MP who wants PR – that is now the vast majority.

And we will work with every progressive of every stripe who wants a new democracy for a new society.

Over the coming weeks and months Compass, working with others, will set out how to achieve this pledge – how we use our votes, activism and money to mobilise a progressive majority for change.

Be a part of it – take the pledge with us.

We were hoping for the best news from Brighton. We were proud to be part of Labour for a New Democracy.

But let’s face it – Keir Starmer or any leader can’t ever really let us down. Only we can let ourselves down – by giving up or wasting our energy.

The fight for a new politics is just starting – it’s clear we can’t wait for Labour’s leadership to do it for us. It was always going to come from us.

That is why we must take the pledge and work to get hundreds of thousands of our fellow citizens to do the same.

And it’s why we will set up local Compass groups in every target seat and area to build a Rebel Alliance for change.

PR was never just about how we count votes, but about how we count the wellbeing of people and the planet. It was about a new democracy to build a new society.

We live without illusions, while never ever being disillusioned.

Today we found out that is down to us. In truth it always was.

Let the fight for a new democracy for a new society begin.

Take the pledge with us and take  the journey with us.

In hope and determination,

The Compass team

P.S. On Tuesday evening, we rally at Labour Conference for the Progressive Alliance we need to deliver a new democracy and a change of government. Join us in person or by livestream to find out where we go from here.

Self-Praise is no #Recommendations, but I have accomplished much today. Guess I have to be thankful for the little things in life that makes me want to do only my #Best? Tomorrow is another day & with God’s guidance I surely will accomplish most of what I set out to do…? Gosh October is going to be one #BusyMonth. 7th is my OU AOUG Awards Ceremony & I am off to Milton Keynes for the day. Need to get my life back where I want it to be & stop focus on those #Horrible LEYF Nurseries Psychopaths? Time for my #BeautyRest, at least I am still in good nick for my age & all the other ailments that I can’t do a blinking thing about, other than what I am doing! Trying to manage & control my #Health? Why is Facebook fixated on Mr Lloyd Walters? Well mi hantag di damn ting, because mi nuh fava di Man!

Since no one is willing to give me a #Voice, I will #Empower myself. The #World need to know who/what are responsible for the #StaffingCrisis in the first place. It boils down to a situation where after 5+ years of dedicated services & a Long Service Awards, the CEO who signed the LSA can join in to #Discriminate against the #Employee resulting in #MentalHealthIssues that needs #Counselling. One of the Panel who interviewed the employee & have a string of #Outstanding as a #Manager at Carlton Hill have since been forced to #Resign after 15 years. Guess she could not live with her conscience after the #Lies she had to write in the #Statement. Understand like me she is out of a #Job & living on her #Savings? Then there is the matter of #References which cause #Employers to withdraw post or in my case unable to find #Employment. Revenge is a Dish…? My CPPDP & Defensive Practice will tally up for a few #BOOKS until mi ready fi guh back wey mi come from. Mi YARD -JAMAICA?
Have a few errands to run, but the rain just came down in a rush. Had a #Liein with my Tom & the song in my #Head – Pitter a patter, coming down… Me & my #Baby holding tight… #Pains giving my Tom a warm time. I told the #Scientist about my Diet & Exercise Plan that I use to manage & control my Arthritis & Diabetes & he was well impressed. Only the #IntellectualImbeciles at @LEYF are not aware of my #Disabilities. Maybe if they get out my #FILE from the #ObeahWoMan where they think they can keep me down forever. Maybe the #BentConJohn might learn to #READ by now? In the words of my #KinDreadSpirit, I only believe in #GOD the 3 in 1!

The https://www.voicetheunion.org.uk are involved and http://unison.org.uk must be charged too.

Without Prejudice Let The World Be Aware Am Out Of Stockholm Syndrome Jail

So a #caller claiming to be from the University of East London must be exposed because of the #snide comments I see elsewhere
This is how http://www.gov.uk/studentfinance tried to stitch me up I am waiting to hear about advice given. Don’t know if this is where I raise concerns about the fact am not enrolled despite making contact and carrying out the instructions. There is the matter of the caller claiming to be from the UEL trying to get me off the course with his concerns about my failing. The question is am still a bit confused and my paranoid mind developed the past 7 years is working overtime that someone wants me to fail. This takes me back to the teachers telling me to keep my son at home because he was not talking and I said he is going to school because am paying. He had a misdiagnosis. So once again the professionals are not always right when they don’t give those concerned a voice.
