CRE-ACTORS E-BOOK ONLINE NOW
Border Crossings (Ireland), together with leading European theatre companies, Théâtre du Soleil (France), Teatro dell’Argine (Italy) and The Fence (Sweden), has just published an e-book that brings together their different approaches to devised theatre.
The e-book documents practices, processes and methodologies of theatre creation in intercultural contexts and is essential reading for anyone interested in collaborative theatre-making across languages, cultures and different organisational shapes.   The e-book is the result of a two-year project, supported by the European Union through its Erasmus + programme.   Access the e-book.      BOTANY BAY – PROJECT UPDATE
As we approach the end of our year-long participation and learning project Botany Bay, the first garden celebrations have begun!   Supported by the National Lottery Heritage Fund, Botany Bay makes use of the migration histories of plants and crops, and their Indigenous cultural heritage in relation to ecology and reciprocity, as a way to stimulate young people to explore new ways of living.     At Hurst Drive Primary School, families, children and teachers celebrated the incredible garden they have created, with a beautifully painted Honeybee Tree by Wiradjuri-British artist Jasmine Coe, a Torres Strait song and dance taught by visiting Indigenous artist Jessie Lloyd, pumpkin cookies made from the garden’s own produce, and the fabulous poetry about the garden written by the children themselves.   Find out more about the Botany Bay project and access learning materials.    TRUSTEE & TREASURER OPPORTUNITY   Border Crossings is undergoing a period of exciting growth and change and is seeking a Treasurer with excellent experience in financial management and accounting to join our board! We are looking for someone who shares our vision, values and the art forms we engage with.   Find out more and apply.    SONGSTREETS    Indigenous Australian musician Jessie Lloyd completed her residence in Brixton last week. During her time in London she began to work with the local community to collect stories and songs about the area, its history and the experience of Black Britons.
We are now working with Artist and Sound Designer Thor McIntyre-Burnie to create SONGSTREETS – an interactive music app around the songs and stories collected by Jessie during her time in Brixton.

Find out more.    FROM OUR FRIENDS: SCOTTISH DOC INSTITUTE    Filmed over the course of three years and partially shot by the Indigenous Uru-Eu-Wau-Wau people, THE TERRITORY (2022) depicts the suspenseful battle of last members of the tribe to protect their land from farmers and illegal settlers.    Scottish Doc Institute will explore the making of this captivating, harrowing and eye-opening debut (prod. by Darren Arronofsky) in an online conversation with the director Alex Pritz.    Find out more.     Make sure you’re following us on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter for all the latest information!   The Covid19 pandemic seems slowly to be in retreat, but it will be a long time before theatre can fully recover. Meanwhile, climate change is a massive threat, and #BlackLivesMatter has highlighted the colonial roots of so many challenges we face today. Border Crossings is addressing these issues in a sustained programme of artistic and educational work, even while conditions remain precarious. We are not currently charging anyone to attend our events. If you feel able to make a donation to support our work, please go to our JustGiving page where you can donate online.  You can also raise money for Border Crossings as you shop online through Give As You Live and Amazon Smile.

SONGSTREETS

Venue:

Brixton

A unique project mapping Brixton’s rich music, history and culture.

The vibrant south London neighbourhood of Brixton is brimming with history. In our latest project, we are working to create an interactive music map that will chart the inspiring stories of Brixton’s Black community as told by local people themselves.

SONGSTREETS is led by Jessie Lloyd, an award-winning Indigenous Australian musician, who revived the music of Indigenous Elders in Australia. As with Jessie’s MISSION SONGS PROJECT, in Brixton she has embarked on a musical journey with the local community, to reveal the forgotten stories and unexplored corners of recent history.

The project will culminate in the release of an interactive music app, created by award winning transformative public arts company Aswarm.

Jessie Lloyd is an Australian Aboriginal singer, social historian and cultural practitioner of Indigenous song, who takes audiences on a profoundly-moving musical journey into the depth and diversity of cultural identity.

Aswarm transforms places to enable the people that use them to play, contemplate and re-evaluate their agency within them. They see their audiences as the active agents that bring the work to life. Aswarm is directed by artist Thor McIntyre-Burnie.

Part of the UK/Australia Season 2021-22.
