IMPARTS 5-day course: Mental health skills for non-mental health professionals
The IMPARTS course ‘Mental health skills for non-mental health professionals’ is a short, highly popular module for clinicians working in physical healthcare settings. Taking place one day a week over five weeks, teaching from highly experienced professionals will cover the most common mental health problems encountered in the general hospital setting. Teaching is includes role play scenarios with specialist actors, and is a unique opportunity to confidentially share professional experience and expertise with peers.
The course is CPD certified and can also be offered as a Level 7 15 credit module for people studying for an MSc.
What does this course offer?
The course covers the key mental health presentations seen in physical healthcare settings. Each of the five taught days has a different clinical theme: depression and anxiety; confusion and agitation; persistent physical symptoms; substance misuse; and handling conflict. Students will become familiar with common presentations, assessment tools, basic management strategies and ethical issues related to each clinical theme. No prior knowledge of mental health is assumed.
Learning outcomes
To demonstrate an understanding of the range of mental health problems affecting people in the general hospital setting
To be able to use clinical data from a range of tools and approaches to identify and assess common mental health problems
To acquire consultation skills to facilitate the management of common mental health and related clinical problems
Who is eligible to apply?
We accept applications from clinicians working in physical healthcare settings, including nurses, doctors, physiotherapists and other allied health professionals.
Course fees
The fees are £650 for the five week course. This includes resources and supporting material compiled by the course tutors.
